Objectives Students will learn that …
1. Roman advancements in engineering, architecture, art and philosophy helped shape later civilizations by a round-robin class discussion with regard to innovation and technology. Students will be able to connect Roman advances and importance to today’s technological advances.

HSS: 7.1.1. Students analyze the causes and effects of the vast expansion and ultimate disintegration of the Roman Empire.

1. Study the early strengths and lasting contributions of Rome (e.g., significance of Roman citizenship; rights under Roman law; Roman art, architecture, engineering, and philosophy; preservation and transmission of Christianity) and its ultimate internal weaknesses (e.g., rise of autonomous military powers within the empire, undermining of citizenship by the growth of corruption and slavery, lack of education, and distribution of news).

Guided Practice: Students break into small groups (assigned by instructor) and await instructions on the creation of Vocab-Art Cards.--Students will follow instructions to the vocabulary word and use of it in an artistic / linguistic context
Independent Practice: Students will work on Vocab Art cards on their own, with assistance from table-mates and the instructor when necessary.

*Instructor will survey the class randomly selecting students to share their progress (1 on 1)
NOTES (Student Progress/Issues)

Conclusion:The instructor will determine if enough time was allotted for students to truly comprehend their chosen vocabulary words…The instructor will assess whether students comprehension was correct by requesting that students (1 per table of 5) read theirs aloud…a 100% correct usage of terms is required.
